    Duterte the next Philippine President

Sara the daughter, not the dad

Latest poll results (last poll in March)

    Mayor Sara Duterte 28% (27%)

    Mayor "Isko Moreno" Domogoso.14% (12%)
(Has said he will not run but a good bet for 2028)

    Marcos Jr 13% (13%)
(Has said he will not run against Duterte)

    Senator Poe 10% (12%)
(Has said she is not running)

    Senator Pacquiao 8% (11%)
Switched to be anti Duterte and ranking fell. Is about to be ousted from the party he leads

VP Robredo, leader of Liberal Party 6% (7%)
Has not decided to run or not. I am guessing not.

6 political parties have already backed Sara Duterte as their candidate.

I would put your money on now.

Will policies change? Sara is tougher, more intelligent and more articulate than her dad. Her focus will be more domestic I think. She hates public speaking so that could be different!

There really should be laws stopping princelings from holding high office.

    Yep

But incumbents families have an 'unfair' advantage and political dynasties are rarely good.

I didn't mean just the Philippines all countries including non-democratic countries.

Actually there was talk of an anti-dynasty law but it was more aimed at more than one member of a family holding a position at the same time. Never going to happen, turkeys voting for Christmas.

If you go through that list most are linked to a famous parent or spouse. The only reason Robredo got elected was because of her late husband, Poe because her father was a very popular actor

OK if you think you understand politics and party politics prepare to have your understanding of how it works destroyed.

I will try and keep it simple.

Duterte senior's party has put forward Senator Go as presidential candidate with Duterte senior as vice president. Senator Go is not a member of the party and says he is not interested in running.

Sarah Duterte (who split and formed her own party) says it is time for her dad to stop pissing around and she will not run for President if he runs for VP. He backed down today and said he won't run for VP if she runs for President but he doesn't want her to.

Pacquiao was leader of Duterte senior's party but got removed from that position. He will probably leave the party to set up his own party and run under that.

Manila Mayor Moreno left the party he was vice chair of and joined a tiny party with just one lawmaker. That will be his party to run for President. He had a swipe at Duterte so Duterte discussed photos of Moreno wearing a bikini as a call boy. Really bad political move from Moreno, would have been a certainty for 2028 but obviously got impatient.

The Liberal Party has no candidate. The current VP and their leader doesn't know if she will run or not (she is on 5% in the polls) and the alternatives are dire. There doesn't seem to be support for her.

The Liberal Party said the opposition needed to unite and field one anti-Duterte candidate. Called a meeting with Senator Lacson who is building a coalition. He said fine but we all submit our candidacy and see what the opinion polls say. The one with the most support is the one we all back. Liberal Party backed off in horror as it sounded like democracy.

The Communist Party never put up a candidate under any of their front organisations. They will probably support the Liberal Party

Marcos is keeping quiet and staying out of the fighting. Expected to run for VP under Sara Duterte.

Current polls still show Sara Duterte way out in front.

    9 months to go.

    If they can stop fighting.

Like George Bush senior and junior or here in the Philippines Aquino mum and son.
