The Court of Appeal has thrown out Ressa's appeal against her cyberlibel conviction from 2020. She faces 6 years jail.

The case stems from her campaign to ruin the name of the Supreme Court Chief Justice who was going to.investigate the Aquinos for the killing of protesting farmers. He was impeached and died soon after. His replacement was completely unqualified and a Liberal Party puppet. Unfortunately innocent businessmen were also libelled by Ressa.

Obviously the truth is no.farmers were shot (ignore the press reports of the massacre), there was no campaign against the Chief Justice or impeachment, Ressa didn't commit libel, the original court and the Court of Appeal are opposed to.press freedom and support Duterte even though he is no.longer president.

Bless her cotton socks, now it is Marcos' fault even though the libel case is years old and absolutely nothing to do with him. Still I suppose she needs to paint herself as his victim to keep the money flowing in. There is a reason why Rappler is the least trusted media outlet in the Philippines

Yes expected, the tax evasion charges were weak I thought. From my understanding she didn't declare everything she should have but none of it was taxable. (If you never make a profit then tax is the least of your problems).

She still has an appeal to the Supreme Court on cyber libel and the SEC case on being foreign controlled. Can't see her winning either of those so probably facing a heavy fine (maximum sentence is 7 years jail but don't see that happening).

On Rappler it must hurt her that Rappler used to be quoted constantly in foreign media but rarely gets mentioned now.

While this thread is open, and related

The advantages of supporting the USA and of telling people what they want to hear.

The war on drugs continues, deaths continue, but now the deaths are no longer EJKs.

De Lima held in jail was political oppression of a critic on trumped up charges. She is still in jail. Seems not to be a problem anymore.

"Human Rights Defenders" (who just happen to be members of the Communist Party) killed. Canada refuses to supply helicopters.

"Human Rights Defenders" killed. No problem. The Philippines is awash with Black Hawk and Atak helicopters. Canada invites Marcos to a State Visit to Canada. Marcos gets full military welcome in the USA.

In the Philippines the real opposition comes from the Duterte camp. The three women who have always had power (VP Sara Duterte, former president Gloria Arroyo, Senator Imee Marcos, his sister) are manoeuvering and clearly up to something.

Reminds me a bit of that Rossevelt quote about Somoza decades ago...
