    Yes you are correct. It is a huge leap to assume governments adopt policies that will increase Covid cases in traditionally quiet periods for upper respiratory diseases because they want to flatten the curve. It might be dumb luck.

    I would go with acknowledging the desire of their electorate to reduce restrictions so they can stay in power (doesn't apply to China) combined with the reality of increased vaccination rates providing protection from severe illness and hospitalisation.

    Certainly your original statement was false and without evidence.
