Apparently he signed the law himself in 2018 that increased the penalty for the law he broke

Greatest irony: Trump had four years to learn that he could declassify any documents.

Thats their excuse .. he declassified them like 3 mins before they were loaded into the moving van from the White House, but they never got it into the system or someone did not get the fax.

So confused about what they were looking for- seems to be random documents that normally go the National Archives that include things like a letter from Obama (the typical letter from outgoing to incoming), correspondence with Kim Jong Un, just kind of...stuff. Maybe Trump was going to auction them off to raise $$ (joke). The whole thing just seems...stupid.

Anyway, NPR has some more details but I am still left with more questions than answers...

I think it was NYT (or may be Maggie Haberman's book) which has documented that he used to rip bits out from classified briefings / documents to keep them for himself. Worth going on a side track about photos of his toilet ..

    Also this...

According to an earlier Axios report, Haberman’s account of the Trump presidency is the one that “Trump fears most”. Several advisers are unhappy with his decision to talk to the reporter but concluded that he couldn’t help himself – despite once calling her a “maggot”.

Also, I've said for the longest time .. when the govt wants to get you, they'll eventually find a way. For Al Capone it was famously for taxes, for Jimmy Lai/Apple it was a very technical violation of the lease...

Doesn't that make it an even more appropriate metaphor, given the post I was responding to?
