In case anyone doesn't know the old UK system, at 11 you took an exam. If you passed you went to a state Grammar School, if you failed you went to a state Secondary School. So not, at least directly, related to wealth.

Never heard of them. Perhaps in the old system there were a few parallel private grammar schools. They were not going to call them private secondary schools. I thought they just used the name of the school, the two nearest us that I knew of were Eton and the Licensed Victuallers.
