The Philippines is ranked 132 out of 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index, describing its media as "extremely vibrant despite the government's targeted attacks and constant harassment" against journalists that are "too critical".

If convictions are government led in a country with poor press freedom...
Where is any evidence that CONVICTIONS are government led? You linked to her being found not guilty.

The media is " extremely vibrant". I would dispute the government attacks. Journalist deaths fell under Duterte and many of those supported Duterte. The deaths, now and before, are due to local gangster politicians. They are not national issues. As are the deaths of politicians in elections

So in a country of thousands of journalists, there is the case of Ressa. There is another one in prison but she is a terrorist. So two. Out of thousands. Journalists can and do write whatever they like, however critical, about the government. Now and before. Even Ressa who publishes what she likes and is free to travel the world saying how her freedom is under attack.

Do you think she is innocent of the libel and SEC charges?

Anyway I have said these things before, ever knows my views, Duterte has been out of office for well over a year. And to be honest I don't have the health or energy. So I won't be commenting more on this topic.

Modi may have an authoritarian bent and stirs up nationalism and religious anger as well as intimidation of the press but still a long way from the full playbook of Duterte
