Conspiracy theory: this whole debacle was a deliberate way to turn OpenAI into a for profit rather than this weird non-profit IKEA style NGO.

I'm still skeptical about AI as an industry. A decade ago Blockchain was going to change everything and now? AI will find its niche but not sure it's going to usher us into the world of The Jetsons.
I think the companies involved are intentionally making this news confusing to increase our reliance on their service.
Well thought out opinion from Matthew Prince, the cloudflare guy ..

but its faulty, Microsoft didn't pay 10 billion or 11 billion upfront, in cash, part of that "investment" is just providing server time, I bet Microsoft and OpenAI are looking very closely at that contract![]()
having a bunch of leading experts on Microsoft's side (even in the short term) will be beneficial, background knowledge alone helps interrogating OPenAI. Also the media is reporting that lots of OpenAi researchers want to follow Sam, that can only strengthen Microsoft's position, doesnt wreck it.
Agree that the split between compute and hard cash is unknown, or may be its known in some disclosures, but cant be bothered to dig into this.
The issue that Prince is raising is that MS does not want to be the company "running and owning OpenAI" ... I agree with that too.
I expect this will get resolved in the next few weeks... Sam back at OpenAI and perhaps a new for-profit-model being looked at or atleast investors getting voting rights / boards seats.
Seems Ilya Sutskever both voted for ousting Sam Altman AND signed the employee letter threatening to resign if he wasn't reinstated.
