i am not sure if 'relatively unscrap' is a term i would use.. the number of 'short' buildings that collapsed are alarming for a relatively 'developed' and 'rich' country (at least the semiconductor industry is)... so might have to draw conclusion that the construction industry is not well regulated and alot of dirt beneath..

i remembered the last round was it a typhoon or another earthquake and also showed case how bad taiwanese buildings are against nature..

This is the official narrative. You could be right about large-scale violations of safety codes (no expectation that businesspeople less unethical as a group than elsewhere), but perhaps it is also related to the age of buildings in a relatively “developed” country.

Of course no idea what you are seeing, maybe more revealing if you share the sort of footage and reports that are circulated to you that helps form your opinion.

Historically there were a lot of crappy buildings in Taiwan and codes weren't followed. It's worth remembering that Taiwan has only really been developed for a few decades so there's probably a lot of legacy which needs cleaning up over time.
