It was her opinion. I don't agree with her, you may not agree with her, but that is irrelevant.
The way forward is not to silence her or fire her from her job but to try and present an alternative opinion. Which would have been possible if this trans woman didn't shut down the conversation because the lady wouldn't validate his/her delusion of being a woman.
There are boundaries to free speech in any civilised society. Hate speech has no place. Saying you are not in support of trans rights of recognition is fine, comparing them to shit is not.
How much time do you spend searching for these stories or do you have a transphobic search set up?
There's no hate speech. It's an opinion. Don't fall for that nonsense. Posters on here have been bemoaning the fact that Trump wasn't murdered at the rally/golf course, wishing him dead. Sounds more like hate speech to me than what this politician said, but I'm not trying to close down these opinions. Much better to correct them.
By the way, who defines those boundaries of hate speech? You? Trump? The Pope? It's a silly concept. If you slander or threaten anyone, there are laws that can deal with that. Anything else - in particular people being "offended" by something - is dangerous waters.
And how much time do I have? How much time do you think I need to keep on top of cultural issues? It's hardly a niche topic - trans issues are all over the media, particularly the left leaning Guardian, which is my primary news source.
That's not what I wrote. Don't go all straw man again. I said laws already exist for discriminatory, threatening or slandering behaviour. But should all negative opinions immediately be classified as hate? Where would they leave us?
As mentioned, if you take the standard definitions, then several people on this forum could in theory be prosecuted for comments encouraging violence against Trump. Or do we only apply "hate speech" when it is ideologically convenient?
If I say trans women are NOT women, is that hate? Some would say so (see the disastrous hate crime laws I Scotland) but should I be prosecuted for stating biological fact? Is is hate to say that Zionists are evil, because we've had an awful lot of that over the past 12 months? If a religious person says that gay marriage is a sin, is that also hate speech or is it protected speech? It's a slippery slope and I am sure you have no problem with that because it doesn't impact your life. But for many others it does and as a result should be resisted
That is not what I wrote. Don't go all straw man on me again. Nowhere did I say negative speech was hate speech. Quite the opposite.
No saying trans women are not women is not hate. Saying they are all shit is.
Saying the actions of the Israeli government are wrong is not hate. Saying Jews are evil is hate.
Saying homosexuality is a sin is not hate, saying they are evil is (and not Christian).
It isn't that difficult a concept unless you try twist my words
