I did not in fact say they were not political, and the point was that their sentences reflected what society broadly felt they should be, outside the view of what any particular figure thinks.

That I loosely referred to the discretion afforded as “pardon power” does not in fact represent that I thought they were walking out of prison, but thanks for the clarification, they are apparently getting a worse punishment than what they were sentenced to in some minds.

I shall pull a hull here, since apparently holding people with power to account is less important than determining if forum members hold views agreeable with our own.

Since you claim “judge and juries” “very much are always political”, rule of law is a farce, so you must support lynch mobs?

Trump Merry Christmas and Go To Hell message to the prisoners with commuted sentences. Also a happy message to China soldiers in the Panama Canal (?) not sure what that is all about, whether real or imagined.

It's going to be a blast, the next 4 years (if he lives to the end of his presidency).

Saying that the sentence reflects what society broadly wants is completely ignoring the fact that the US is basically split in half. Does society broadly want an abortion ban ? No gun control? Trials are like election, pick the right venue and the right judge and the chances of your desired outcome is best. This is not a homogenous society. It does not want one thing or another. Rule of law is not as a whole a farce but justice is definitely not blind either. I'm not sure that someone growing up in the projects would call a suburban mom a jury of his/her peers either.

Like many, many, many things in the US, people look at what Biden did through the lens of their political affiliation. He's swinging the pendulum one way knowing full well that it will be swinging the other way with Trump. I call this balance... Right or wrong has absolutely nothing to do with it, it's a matter of perspective. A lot of it has to do with the conflict of justice representing punishment or rehabilitation.

Indeed, no sympathy for them. I was just pointing out they have not been pardoned in any way. Their new punishment could be viewed as worse than the original.

Worse as well as less costly to taxpayers. (Unless they're encarcerated at Gitmo at the going rate of US$13 million a year.)

Please buy us Denmark, we are hopelessly in debt so I think you can have us for bargain basement prices. I am willing to move back and pay US taxes again if I can be a Danish citizen...

I am wondering if the takeover would pass due diligence? Is the USA a sustainable business?
