That is one thing I find annoying - you can't just sign up for one year; it's a running subscription you have to actively cancel - sometimes by calling them.

Only if the card expires can you - maybe - avoid it without explicitly remembering to cancel before their renewal date.

Remember one year when FT renewed for an expired card - they were able to guess the details on the renewed card because they were mostly the same - only a new expiry date I guess.Seems cards don't change even the cvv when they renew - as a security feature that code is ridiculous.

I haven't ever come across an auto-renew subscription where I couldn't trun off the auto-renew immediately after signing up. Cancelling the aurt-renew just leaves you with the one year (or whatever you signed up for) - it doesn't cancel what you have paid for.

The US introduced some new laws to help with this. "Click to cancel".

Thanks for this. Would like to go back to reading NYT.

Thanks for this reminder that the click to cancel thing was in effect. NYT offered a retention for $1 a month for a year.

So, does this mean there are no good deals in HK this weekend, and our only options are whatever we can find online from Amazon or other sources?

Since Thanksgiving isn't a thing here then I guess so. You just missed all the local "deals" for 11.11.

There are a few on fortress etc ... "thankful week". iHerb has a bunch of specials. Lots of "black friday" and "cyber monday" deals - just not as deep as the US.

    Fortress for example:

Samsung and lots of other manufacturers have promotions which also extend down to retail if you look around.

Fair enough .. your local 759 does not have a black friday sale, but since its a shorter sales cycle this year around, discounts are showing up all over.
