Hmm, looks like regional jet from Kansas coming in for a landing while the Blackhawk just plows right into it.
Anyone who lived or worked in Crystal City, the row of high rises that borders the airport, VA side, can tell you that there is just constant helicopter traffic up and down the Potomac. Even out in McLean, I was a few hundred meters from the Potomac, always hearing helicopters going up and down the river.
Pretty sure this will be reevaluated, because a lot of airplanes flying along there, very crowded airspace.

American Airlines reports 60 people and 4 crew on the jet.
No one talking about survivors and it's been about an hour, water freezing cold, they have been having unusually freezing weather. Plus, looked like quite an explosion so not a more controlled emergency landing into the river.
One of the old timers from Geo is the guy to follow on twitter for this sort of news.

Been two hours now, water temperature around 1 degree C, river frozen in parts. Plane in multiple pieces.
If they had pulled anyone out, pretty sure we would have heard by now, working around the flat doing some minor repairs/maintenance, CNN on. Now reporting some body recovery, not looking good. All kinds of divers in the river, pretty experienced rescue crews so, yeah...
Some recordings from air traffic being released, apparently the helicopter was warned about the commercial plane although from the video, just looked like going straight into it.
Sad. Press conference coming up.
Image of plane in the water, torn apart, no survivors still, confirmed fatalities.
Trump blamed the helicopter on Truth social, being extremely responsible by not jumping to conclusions at all.
CNN reports it was a night training mission for the helicopter, and I think that's a fail. Lots of families going to be questioning that as well as all these helicopters in general, most of which ferry around VIPs, and, yes, that's what these guys were training for.
Hopefully they reevaluate all of the helicopter traffic, it's long overdue.

Trump's late night, clear headed, responsible and not at all inflammatory statement on Truth Social, as passed along by...the Daily Mail...slightly better than linking to Truth Social but not much.
