UK Supreme Court Defines "Sex" (Whether Biological or also "Certificated"- such as trans)

Judges at the Supreme Court in London were asked to rule on what that law means by "sex" - whether it means biological sex, or legal, "certificated" sex as defined by the 2004 Gender Recognition Act.
Wow, what a minefield. Someone can post all the reactions from X and wherever else.

I think, as The Economist, a newspaper, noted a few months ago, we are past "peak woke".

Surely laws will be re-written to add transgender and then the courts will have to decide what that actually means.

Did you actually read the link? That is what the UK Supreme Court has done after the Scots tried to redefine "women" (and then put a convicted rapist who asserted that he was transgender in a women's prison - what could possibly go wrong?)

It seems to me that Scotland is like Ireland - they have very many smart people (HK was basically colonised by Scots), marked by the fact that they leave. What is left is not pretty to look at.

Decision relates to how it's defined in certain laws so the laws can be rewritten-or not-as people see fit.

And...it's 88 pages, so waiting to hear further analysis, too lazy to do it myself as I am working on something. And...not my legal system, I am assuming even though it started in Scotland now applies to all of the UK but UK people can correct me if I am wrong.

JK Rowling, who apparently funded some of the fight, weighs in:

Isn’t the key word here ‘biological’? Apart from documented cases of hermaphroditism, and much to the displeasure of some of the LGBTQRFNDISJB community you are either born male or female.

I have no problem with the creation of a 3rd and even 4th sex for those that want to change but biology is biology and my understanding is that this is the primary focus of the 88 pages. Create TG competitions for sport, how hard can that be? Paralympics games have come on leaps and bounds in the last 20 years and Rome wasn’t built in a day.

i identify as a tea bag.

Why? If you want to be a men dressing as a woman, do that. Whatever floats your boat, but why does that mean you should receive special treatment, or that others should have to acknowledge you as a woman? You are owed a modicum of respect, you are not owed an acknowledgement of your warped sense of reality.

Big cheers to the Supreme Court for cutting through woke’s mess! Defining "woman" by biology fixes a chaotic mix-up. The woke crowd overdid it, blaming current generations for past wrongs while opportunists cashed in on the woke hype. This ruling keeps women’s spaces safe while respecting transgender rights, a good balance. Remember Algerian trans boxer’s Olympic win in Paris, sparking sports fairness debates? May courts keep closing woke’s gaps to restore fairness everywhere. It’s like the court winked, “Let's keep it fair, not flair !”
