    HAPPY EASTER!

Conflicted Christian that I am (or not, take your pick), I have observed Holy Week and going out to the Easter Vigil tonight, trying to instill more faith, I guess. Lovely Mormon missionaries once told me that praying for more faith was, in itself, an act of faith.

    They are very earnest people...

A better image of Easter than the usual cross or crucifix, more hopeful...

Yeah, hence the term "conflicted" and don't even get me started on why this sacrifice is/was necessary. Also not a great time to be a sheep, lots of eating...and also laying down your life for the sheep...who you are going to kill later, it raises more questions.

But, hey, we're having a potluck after church tomorrow and the people are really nice...

Spring fertility festival (eggs, bunnies etc)? All for it!

Nailing people to crosses? Seems a bit naff!

As usual (see mid-Winter / angels on trees) the god-botherers have hijacked a perfectly good festival for their own purposes.

That is a myth. At least the date.

Solstice is a fixed date. Easter moves. Why does it move? Because the Jewish festival of Passover is central to the story and Passover is a moving date. So the dating predates Christianity by a thousand years or more.

The date for Christmas yep chosen to compete with mid winter and contradicts the Bible.

Well OK, but the spring fertility solstice still somehow got attached to the Eatser/Passover thing. There is no mention of Creme Eggs, or bunnies in the Bible or the Torah!

Nor Christmas cards or trees. Or dressing up at Halloween with trick or treat.

No eggs or bunnies here. Or Christmas cards or trick or treat
