HK was already very built up in 2012 so there won't be as much of a visual change but there have been plenty of new offices e.g Henderson Building and Cheung Kong Centre in Central, One Tai Koo place in QB, Airside in Kai Tak, even technically the Hysan went up within that time window. There's also currently lots of commercial construction in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Quarry Bay, Kwun Tong. Probably all over the place
Well, we're in transition. Declined population, but they'll replace those people with our northern friends soon enough.
No....but I think East Kowloon district commercial vacancies are >20% (for example) so probably should plan future construction carefully........lots of new buildings all over the place......
Build more offices for what?
We have absolute record office vacancy all over Central and beyond. There's no jobs, plenty of empty space with no one renting.

Some people have highlighted a few buildings here and there going up in HK
I could delve into the M2 of new office space in the last 20 years and see how HK has done compared with its peers. But there is little point as the answer seems obvious (to me at least).
Office rent is falling but probably due to a lack of demand as business look at alternative places rather than too much new supply.
This is an awful comparison though.
- 1st place is 40 years apart and much more spacious.
- 2nd place is also around 40 years apart, with the oil money seriously rolling in after that, and unlimited space.
- 3rd place the after photo is not even real imo.
Meanwhile the HK comparison is only 13 years apart, angled at an already seriously crowded island with no open space.
