Wonder how stable it is - he just made it up. If he has an account with HSBC the counter pope might ask him to "do it again" and scrutinise the differences

True story, back in the 1950s, family friends bought a St. Bernard puppy from some European monastery, died due to suspected birth defects, replacement puppy same, heartbreaking. They asked for a refund, couldn't deal with more dead puppies.
They ended up suing and, long story short, ended up somehow having to sue the pope as the head of the church "corporation." Forgot all the details but I guess CEO, whatever.
Your comment trigged a memory of trying to withdraw $1,500HK from HSBC. I asked for a specific set of bills and the teller asked me repeatedly to sign for authorization because it wasn't an exact match. After the third time, I said, "If I wanted to steal from this account don't you think I'd withdraw more than $1,500HK and be less picky about the denominations of the bills?!!" After a a moment of silence, she counted out the sum, placed it on top of an envelope and slide it to me.
I mean, it's in Rome...what language would he do the homily in? Italian makes perfect sense to me.
Also most cardinals do speak fluent/passable Italian..besides priest training, where all of them spend at least a couple of years in Rome or Jerusalem (in Italian speakings institutes), most church business is conducted in Italian (all HQs of the orders being in Rome, etc..)

Let's see, 133 cardinals watching the first mass in the Sistine Chapel, more than half are more fluent in English than Italian, particularly Asian, African, and North American cardinals.
At least 1 million people watching on video, whether live or on YouTube. Approximately what percentage of those have a passing knowledge of English vs. Italian?
Even the large masses and blessings in St. Peter's Square. How many pilgrims vs. Italians?
It is not the lingua franca of the Church and never was. Was used because previous popes (prior to John Paul II) were predominantly Italian.
We are in the Digital Age. The global video audience vastly outnumbers the live audience.

Way too woke for the MAGAs.
Yes, Pope Leo the XIII is remembered precisely for that encyclical. I guess he felt the need to explain it but almost every Catholic commentator said that within the first hour after it was announced.
OK, apparently the pope DOES get a salary...33k US per month.
Hopefully he's got some deductions or a fair chunk will go to...Trump et al.
Francis turned it down because plenty of other perks, you can eke out an existence with free housing, transportation, food, and medical. Guessing the clothes are free as well, not to mention free grave plot and burial expenses.
