Eh?
I work in Taiwan with all Taiwan coworkers and go to Taiwan language school.
Umm, no. No one wants to be a part of China except maybe a few oldsters, that generation is dying out. The young 'uns view themselves as entirely Taiwanese, which they are.
The US runs hot and cold towards Taiwan. I still remember being shocked in the 70s when, all of a sudden, China became China and Taiwan became Taiwan (in the eyes of the US). Prior to that, Taiwan was China. US will always throw Taiwan under the bus if it's convenient to them. The current president doesn't give two f's about Taiwan and could not find it on a map of the world, even with all the countries labeled.
Everyone wants independence... but the world ultimately revolves around the economy.
If there was no business in Taiwan you would not be in Taiwan.

Have a look at the numbers...
All my clients are in HK...so...
And, yes, it's the economy that keeps China from just bombing the hell out of TW, the "silicon shield" as it were. We all need the chips, I worship each night at the altar of TSMC.
It is a myth that TW people are pushing for...anything other than the status quo. Ask anyone here under 50. Don't rock the boat, leave everything alone. You are not seeing widespread protests about, well, anything.
Yep, don't I know it! Hey, I don't live there for a LOT of reasons.
USA is out for...USA. Always was, always will be. Trump just honest about it, at least I DO appreciate that about him. He's full of crap but it's very transparent. It's a delightful NY trait. Having grown up in NY, I don't like to beat around the bush either, tell me what you mean, up front. I appreciate the more forthright approach in HK and TW rather than all the stuff that goes on in Japan...too much work to figure out what you're thinking.
