Indeed. I guess they see the problems he is having in the US, with people used to brain-dead black and white people like George W. Bush, and are trying to tell the US public that not everybody needs to be so confrontational, and accepting to talk with people with a different opinion from yours is acceptable.

I guess there was a lack of alternatives. Who else could have been considered? Trying to think back and can't think of anyone immediately. Perhaps they should have declared no winner this year. As Boris says, he has ACHIEVED nothing (in terms of peace anyway).

He may achieve beyond any expectations, but what a farce to award it to someone who has done nothing yet. This must surely diminish the prestige of the award. As Hullexile said.. if nobody fits the bill then declare no winner!

I agree with all the above - this is ridiculous, and I am really rather disappointed that he didn't tell them so and decline it when offered.
