That's indeed sad news about him.

I once hosted a cyclist via WarmShowers and she popped on her bike the next day and cycled off to her next destination. ... I was very worried for a few hours until I got a message she had safely crossed into China. She seemed pretty nonchalant and confident to be on the roads here, but little does she know how inexperienced the drivers are here with cyclists...

As insane the Chinese drivers are, I suspect it's far safer to cycle in China. Someone said it's because they're quite talented at swerving out of the way suddenly!

Damn, terrible news! I've done almost a hundred trips on Brides Pool road this year but never on weekends or at night. Any idea what happened exactly? The translation says his chain gave out and he crashed?

I drove by today and noticed this lamp post gone, it's the third maybe fourth one since summer. The motorcyclists and "boy racers" often hit Brides Pool hard (and carelessly) on weekends, there are lots of cyclists too which is why I avoid it at those times.

I think the number of bike shops (not rental shops) in Taipo has doubled this year.

Here is a true Bus Captain. Great respect to him for finding work at 10% of his old salary.
