Hong Kong Gold Coast

G'day All,

I am possibly moving to HK in the new year and have a few questions on the Hong Kong Gold Coast. I have looked at GoHome.com and a few other sites but I was after opinions of the place from actual residents if possible.

How easy is it to get to Central and Pacific Place? How long does it take? What could I expect for between $HK5,000 and $HK15,000 per month? Is it difficult to get apartments furnished as part of the rental?

I was considering Discovery Bay but having visited I feel that the ferry ride each day (30-50 minutes each way) may eventually get on my nerves. Also, DB looks good for those married with children but perhaps not so for those without kids. This may be a mis-conception; perhaps Gold Coast is similar.

Gold Coast is much farther away from Central than DB. And there are no straight forward transporation for commuting. If less than an hour ride gets on your nerve, then try to stay on Hong Kong island.

Bluey, it would take you a LOT longer to commute from Gold Coast to Central than the ferry ride from DB. The DB ferries are usually fast and you can get to Central within half an hour. If you work in Central then it's a plus, as you don't have to walk much to get to work from the ferry pier. If you lived on the Gold Coast, the only way for you to get to Central would be either the bus (the morning rush hour is a nightmare!) or the new KCR West Rail (though that goes only as far as Mei Foo, after which you'll have to change to the MTR to get to Central). DB's also a great living environment, even if it doesn't offer much to the single resident.

Virtually anywhere on HK and lots of Kowloon is within 30 minutes of Central / Pacific Place, if you live near the MTR.

Mid Levels / SOHO have a fair few places that are in the 10-15K range (small apartments though...) for a 700sq ft apartment. if you don't mind a low rise building there are some good bargains.

I will definitely reconsider DB as a result and we have also been looking at SoHo/Mid Levels/Wanchai so thanks for your suggestions Shri. 700sq ft would be fine for what we need and we would actually prefer a low rise building.

Landlord is upping the rent ... time to move! Considering Gold Coast Residences and would value insights on the listed price versus the real price. Want a three bedroom, pref. 2 baths. Anybody have advice? Need it swiftly.

Totally wrong. bus 962 runs 24h a day and is straight from central to GoldCoast..time is between 40 to 50 minutes

For morning hours there is a shuttle bus service that his straight from Goldcoast to central..takes max 35 minutes.

Also if you take the MTR from Tuen Mun (not that easy to get to from the Gold Coast - about 5-10mins drive) you change at Nam Cheong to get to Central and it takes 45mins from Tuen Mun to Central including the change and you would.

I don't like the Gold Coast apartments and want a place with a pool so if anyone has any building recommendations I would love to hear them.

We are considering the Bellagio - you should check it out. The 962B bus goes by there, it is right on the water with lots of facilities nad a shuttle to Tseun Wan. Best if you have a car though.
