Dear All,
Today's gathering is at the Rick's Greek Bar on the ground floor of 51 Elgin Street (right next to escalator). Sorry I did a typo (not supposed to be Rico's)!

Hi Isinina,
It was lovely to meet you and your family last Sunday! As promised, here are some tips for you in Taipei. Lets start with food which is my favourite topic!!
Where to eat:
==========
1. Top japanese restaurant 三井(need to book)
2. Steamed Dumplings 鼎泰豐 (expect long queues)
3. Thai restaurant 中泰賓館
4. Taiwanese cuisine 欣葉 (Address:新光三越信義新天地 A9 館8F, near tallest 101 building)
Where to go at night:
================
1. Brown Sugar Bar with live band (near New York New York)
2. Shi-lin night market (open till past midnight with food stands and pretty cheap shopping, more touristy but massive area)
3. Shi-Da night market (smaller scale compared to the above but the shops are bit trendier with younger crowd in mind)
Where to go on weekend:
===================
1. Yang Ming Mountain National Park (outskirt of Taipei abotu 40min away)
2. Yi Lan宜蘭 about 90 min away by car, has coastal line.
3. 九份 old historical town
4. hot spring - most high end, relaxing and very clean is 32 Villa, outskirt of taipei. You can spend the night or simply go for the hot spring (has public communal and private ones)
Villa 32
5. national palace musuem, very traditional way of display, but rich collection
I normally use a driver for airport pick up. You can also hire the driver for the whole day for your weekend excursion. He uses black MErcedez and is a safe driver. I have used him for the past 7 years whenever I go to Taipei for business trip. Can call George 0937957948 (dial locally). Let him know you were referred by Shin-Yi. You can compare his rate with a taxi driver. If price is similar, I would recommend you choose George since he is drives safely. LEt me know if you need me to talk to him about where you want to go.
Ok, I think that is plenty for you to do in taipei for the next week. People in Taiwan are generally very helpful but command of English is not so high. The hotel staff should eb able to help you with all the booking and enquiries. I hope you have a pleasant trip there!
