Ani Ashekian entered HK on November 9th and her family have not heard from her in a while. She was supposed to return to Toronto on Dec. 15th.

Do we have any evidence that she wants to be found? Adults are perfectly entitled to disappear if they so want. And, sad to say, given the way some religions & families treat their women it may be that she wants to get away from her family.

I thought about that, but according to her family and boyfriend, she was a frequent traveler and had lots of friends in Canada she was regularly in touch with when outside Canada. She hasn't made any cash advances on her cards since Nov. 10th (her only source of funds) which indicates something is amiss.

Has anybody checked the hospitals etc in case she was involved in an accident or anything like that?

From what I've read, the HK Police have already been notified and immigration records show she has not left the territory after entering from China. The police have probably already checked with the Hospital Authority.

That's a rather cynical attitude to take, PDLM.

If you Google the news stories, it appears to be a completely legitimate missing person case. And she appears to have a fairly normal Canadian background.

It may be cynical but it's not unreasonable. Just look at what happened to that poor ENGLISH doctor in the UK whose family tricked her into going back to Bangladesh to see a "sick mother" and then forced her into marriage? Better to ask the question and be wrong than give out information and have some poor woman captured again by a religious freaks.

She did apparently wander off on her own on her last night in Beijing and then checked out without telling her friends, but strangely she did send an SMS to Canada after arriving in HK. I guess there is a possibility that she doesn't want to be found, but if so, what is she doing for money? She hasn't touched her bank account or credit cards in over a month.
