Just like in the UK: isn't it better to arrange an overdraft facility in advance, just in case of accidentally being overdrawn on your current account? I note there do not appear to be an "interest free overdraft" facilities in HK though.

HSBC Premier HK offers a "Clean Credit Overdraft Facility" that seems sensible as far as I can tell: no ongoing fee if not used, and Base + 4% (so currently 9%) if used.
The reason being that unauthorised overdrafts attract a HKD100 fee each time, so it seems better to have an arranged overdraft facility in place and on standby (I do not plan to use it), but occasionally bills get incurred etc
