For those that follow the daily drama created by the illiberal left, Lionel Shriver has written an OpEd for the New York Times.
Although he focuses on the millennial generation, as can be seen on this forum it can also taint the thinking of older people. Maybe it's the new form of midlife crisis, instead of sleeping with a twenty-something, blokes with receding hairlines and beer bellies become online allies boldly supporting their favourite blue-haired millennial as they proclaim their multiple inter-sectional oppressed identities.
Unfortunately these slow-thinking illiberals are about to reap what they have sown. We already have Brexit, chances are there will be a Trump presidency. Merkel is facing crushing defeats in Germany, Marie Le Pen continues to push the National Front to the fore in France. When you stop listening to the legitimate complaints of the electorate, when you choose instead to falsely label them as racist, sexist,, colonialist, transphobic, white-privileged, you push people to the groups willing to listen. Currently that is the alt-right. And as, contrary to the warped thinking of some, the disenfranchised are in the majority, the politics of multiple western countries are going to be ruled by ultra-conservatives. Well done.
