I stay at the Marriott (China hotel) in Guangzhou for week long stints and they have a lovely wood sauna free for guests. Once for 3 straight days as an experiment I used the sauna every night and did not shower or wash my hair. My hair and skin never felt better. I am going to do that again. My skin always felt dry after a shower and hair limp and oily at the end of the day so I am sold on the sauna treatment.
I reckon the sauna method might work, you would sweat away the dirt and crap from your body, the steam would clean you so why would be stinky afterwards.
Its well known that washing too frequently is bad for the skin and hair as it removes all the essential oils. There are quite a few articles about it. Trouble is, to reach the happy equilibrium you have to go through a smelly phase before the good bacteria etc on the skin build up and counteract the pong. Which few people are prepared to do.
I misstated my experience. I do shower but no soap or shampoo.
Hmm. I didn't know about the good bacteria thing. Must do more research. My routine in Guangzhou is to take a taxi back to the hotel lunch time and do 5k on the treadmill followed by 15 minutes in the sauna and then a cold shower no soap no shampoo. I do that again after dinner but a shorter run and again sauna and cold shower no soap.
