Anybody else having issues with Uber charging your credit card but not turning up for your trip? I've have this issue several times now.

Yes they've charged but you can get a refund when you complain.
Two weeks ago, a Saturday night, after I had placed the order I received my bank authorization sms. But, few minutes later the driver called me for cancellation. I was quite angry for him and the platform. I thought the transaction is done. They replied me on Monday and said, ' authorization is a request only, that driver didn't take the money' and they will pass this case to operation manager for review.
Well, my feeling is that urber drivers are so worry to be caught by plainclothes policeman after the judgement.
I've put Uber on my "install when traveling, uninstall when home" list - despite their reputation, I really don't find HK taxis to be bad, particularly considering how cheap they still are. Elsewhere, Uber is convenient and affordable - in HK it isn't really either. I can see them half pulling out of HK, going down to a fairly low-level service aimed mainly at business travelers rather than locals...
I was worried by that SMS too. But its not a charge. I cancelled an UBER when it didnt turn up in HK - no charge. I find UBER in HK to be somewhat hit and miss and usually use taxi's for trips I want to do fast. But have liked it from time to time when I am in a place where taxies are harder to get and I have a comfy place to wait (like from the club in the GC or from my office in Kwai Fong during rush hour when the taxi queue get quite bad).
