China clones police dog to cut training times

China clones 'Sherlock Holmes' police dog to cut training times
The dog, named Kunxun, was cloned from a police sniffer dog by the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Company and the Yunnan Agricultural University, with support from the Ministry of Public Security
Sinogene is hoping to make it possible to achieve “volume production” of cloned police dogs in order to significantly reduce training times
Kunxun, now three months old, will undergo extensive training in drug detection, crowd control and searching for evidence, and will become a fully fledged police dog when it is about 10 months old

Are they aware that cloning doesn't transfer the knowledge of the old dog to the new one?

They've done it in Korea and it achieved higher rates of training success.

When you farm animals, you always tag the good breeders both male and female and keep them, those that are small or don't have the characteristics you want and you usually sell them for parts. If you have a good animal with the right characteristics why not replicate it instead of playing the genetic lottery.

Also, practice. And to get the idea mainstream. The recent baby gene editing was a case of too much, too fast for public consumption, hence all the loud and public disavowels of knowledge.

Most devastating comment of 2019 thus far. Mic drop. Exit stage right.
