    Question Changing name on HKID

Hi I am a British Born Chinese and have a permanent HKID card through my parents who were originally from Hong Kong.
(My status is the 3 year rule)

I have a British passport which has my Chinese name on it.
However as no one associates me with that name, I am planning to change it to my Western (English) name.

Would I need to change my HKID to reflect my British passport?

You are asking to change your name on your British passport?

That has nothing to do with your HKID card.

The HKID card, you can change your name simply by going to the ID card office. Not sure if you need a deed pole.

British passport, likely you need to go through the courts in UK for an official name change.

You don't need to update your HKID card unless you want to.

Thank you, but wouldn't be confusing in the future if I didn't make the changes on HKID card? 🤔

There is no need to change your name on your HK ID, which you only use to enter and exit HK.

However, what you could do is keep your Chinese name on your HK ID and add your English name to it
(Instead of the transliteration of Chinese characters )

Just walk to HK Immi and fill out a form

But it looks like I won't be needing to go through the process for HKID as it needs my Chinese name anyway.

    Thanks everyone.
