    Hk permanent id, while living in China

    Hello

    My friend is/was Chinese citizen, before changing to the Hong Kong ID.
    She is married to a hk citizen and got ID like that.

    She continues to live in China even if she is in the 7 years application period with permanent stay, to get the permanent id card.

    Is it good enough to only visit Hong Kong every 3 months or do she have to live in Hong Kong 180 days a year?

    To keep a PR 1 visit of 5 minutes to HK in 36 months is more than enough to keep a PR.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Will the 7 years period continue counting if she does like this or will it reset only if she stays outside for over 36 months?

    Afaik if she is a Mainland citizen and has gotten the HKID through marriage to a HKPR and with a so called "one-way permit" she still has to actually reside in HK during the whole 7 years to be eligible for the HKPR. Any time spent not "ordinarily residing" in HK will reset the 7 years.

    Ordinary Residence
    A person has ordinary residence in Hong Kong if he/she remains in Hong Kong legally, voluntarily and for a settled purpose (such as for education, employment or residence), whether of short or long duration. That status does not change if he/she is temporarily absent from Hong Kong.

    Whether or not a person has ceased to be ordinarily resident in Hong Kong is determined by his/her circumstances and those of his/her absence. The circumstances may include:

    The reason, duration and frequency of any absence from Hong Kong;
    Whether he/she has habitual residence in Hong Kong;
    Whether he/she is employed by a Hong Kong based company; and
    The whereabouts of the principal members of his/her family (spouse and minor children).
