That's a relief. Can't stand him babbling away with his nonsense. Piers does remind me of a certain resident troll on geoexpat, hehehe.

I went into that article expecting to be unimpressed

But actually he is asking for police protection and offering to pay.. which seems like it's worth thinking about at least as a person of considerable public 'interest'?

Prince Harry wants to personally fund police protection, "not to impose on the taxpayer", they said.

I suspect a fair few Saudi and other royal-but-not-really-royals would pay for and expect the same access??

The Metroplitan Police protection is not for hire.

There are plenty of private security companies he can employ that are staffed by ex special forces that the really rich and famous use.

I would rather the police, paid for by my taxes, were used for the protection and safety of the general public and not be diverted to look after so called 'important' individuals even if they are paying. It's not like we have enough of them on the street. I cannot remember the last time I saw a police person in my town. If he doesn't feel safe he can stay where he is. (or employ private security)
