Let's hope the Republic of Ireland welcomes new immigrants.
Many local Hong Konger's haven't really experienced racism and it'll be an experience they will not forget.

Hong Kongers are very well versed in racism based on skin color. I'm sure they'll integrate just fine.
Hongkongers suffer racism from their government all the time.
Does a European colonial city count? If so then Melbourne would have had their first ethnically Chinese Mayor in the late 70’s not long after the white Australia policy was abolished by the Whitlam govt, had David Wang, not died of a heart attack before he was officially sworn in.
Fast forward 25years and then we had the very popular (Hong Konger ) John So, who was the first directly elected Mayor via the people not the councillors. 2001 -2004.
Surprisingly few ethnic Chinese in EU politics.

Indians seem to have done better in EU / UK.
Varadkar is probably the highest politically ranked 'Indian' ...
Sad to read this - there are idiots everywhere. I was in Galway 2 years ago for a few days and absolutely loved it. The food was great, the drink was good, and MUSIC! omg the live music was unbelievable! The people i met were really nice too, as the place seems to be heavily reliant on tourists (and I guess in covid thats having a significant impact on livelihoods there).
Hong Kong set the bar for charter cities. But it's not a blueprint that can be transported
