    My experience is only in international education in Hong Kong, certainly nearly all of those are 2 year contracts. Provided you perform well they will be extended but by 2 years at a time.

    I'd ask for an employment letter from your employer detailing that you are on an open-ended contract with no planned end date. Believe I had to deal with something similar at one point in time and that did the trick.
