That article is dated December 1st (corrected on the 5th), but based on a ranking from January 2021. Very old data, long before Malaysia went into a multi-month lockdown, and long before the government decided to play some strange games with the MM2H visa requirements.
The Internations population in Malaysia is a mixture of working expats (usually a bit younger, and eager to make a career), and retired MM2H visa holders.
u know me well enough.. i have little views in retiring there for all the happenings.. so just happened to see the link and put it up..
but anyway i think expats in KL are just very different from expats other countries.. most KL expats are guys sent by their company to head up departments on expat terms.. so i guess the experience and the monetary concerns are different. in contrast singapore/hk you have alot of foreigners coming over to work on our own accord mostly on local terms...
