Help! Lacie external drive not working!

Help, I have just switched on my Lacie drive, which was working fine yesterday, and today it isn't working.

I have 2 of them, one working. I have swapped all the cables, so I know that isn't the problem.

The light comes on but it never pops up as an external drive in Windows. Any ideas or recommendations of software?

    Thanks very much!

Did you have them BOTH connected at the same time?
Can you connect EITHER of them one at a time?

I have always had them both connected at the same time.

Now doesn't work either with them both connected or just with the dead one.

Usually, when I have had a dead drive, windows can see it but can't access it - meaning recovery software can usually pull some data off it.
    This time - nothing!

200Gb of data on the disk. Nothing critical but a big shame none the less.

Are you saying that the drive shows in Windows?

So in that case either the drive is incorrectly set to master instead of slave or vice-versa OR another drive has taken up a drive letter originally used by the LaCie drive.

    hmmm try this....

*right click on "My Computer" left click on "Manage" left click on "removeable storage" and see if they turn up there.

Tried all that before, Windows simply can't see the drive.

I don't think it is a master / slave issue as there are no jumpers accessable to change.

This is the 3rd Lacie external drive I have had stop working in the last 2 years. Maybe there is a lesson there.

I lost 116 gig of MP3s due to a hard disk failure last year. My brother lost about 80 gig of videos this year. I still use externals, but I backup anything I want to save permanently onto DVD or DVD-9 now.
