    That's normal in all of China. I think that's why there was a salt rush, well, in part anyway. I thing I really hate about China, too much salt used in cooking in all aspects.

    all that salt will surely be perfect for SALT CRUSTED CHICKEN recipe, I read that this is a classic chinese recipe which calls for 8 - 9 cups (some use 9 lbs) of salt for a 3 lb chicken.

    although most recipes call for kosher salt, i guess it would do.

    This week it is laundry detergent in Shanghai.

    Sorry, am out of date. Why laundry detergent? I'm not going to stock up on anything except for tin can food which can keep longer and as a small way to fight food cost inflation.

    if you read one of the forum comments on that link - the sign says SALE. i guess when one starts stocking up - many will follow suit blindly and result in a snowball buying frenzy without knowing the real reason why.
