While never one to be a conspiracy theorist like how the USA allegedly downed the World Trade Towers as that stuff is just silly and stupid, there are things that are very, very strange when it comes to the USA and intelligence (what an oxymoron that is).

The question the USA and other nations have to ask (but won't) is how was it possible for bin Laden to hole up in Pakistan for all these years? If Pakistan didn't want him alive (or others of their friends) then he'd not have been there for nearly 10 years.

Other questions is how did the crack US Rangers years ago have in bin Laden in their grasp but somehow let him slip away? That might be ineptness but the time it has taken to find Osama defies common sense and with a $25 million US bounty on his head? Things that make you go hmmmm...

Not sure how relevant this death is but they had a succession plan and new tactics in place since November of last year:

Bin Laden names commander to lead al-Qaida's assault on West

By Praveen Swami, The Daily Telegraph November 10, 2010

Osama Bin Laden has appointed a new commander to spearhead al-Qaida's offensive against the West.

Known to Western intelligence services by the alias Saif al-Adel, or "Sword of the Just"....

In 2005, al-Adel wrote an al-Qaida planning document that holds clues to his thinking. The document said that Islamist movements failed because their "actions were mostly random". It called for al-Qaida to focus on "the greater objective, which is the establishment of a state".

The new attrition strategy marks the triumph of a minority faction within al-Qaida who had opposed the September 11 attacks, arguing that the inevitable U.S. retaliation against Afghanistan would cost the jihadist movement its only secure base.

I knew it was just a matter of time before the crazy conspriracy theorists started in - thanks, Football.

Yes, of course, it is true that OBL was working for the US the entire time. It certainly had nothing to do with the fact that Pakistan's ISI has always played a double game with Al-Qeada. Pakistan intelligence likes the $10 Billion the US has given them but they also like the Taliban because it allows them 'influence' in Afghanistan as they believe is their due.

Too bad they couldn't catch OBL alive so that Football could go and complain about how his trial wasn't fair and how really, there is no difference between the US and Al-Queda.

Anyway, plenty of time to get physically ill over Football's stupidities later. For now, it's a good day to be a human being.

I would imagine that in the short term Al-Qaeda might try to orchestrate some major disruption just to try and prove to the world that they are as big and bad as ever during the transition.

Unfortunately for Al-Qaeda, they've been trying for the past 10 years and have accomplished nothing (except for murdering a lot of innocent Muslims in Iraq and inspiring a couple of train bombings). 9/11 was a one-off - brilliantly conceived and executed; an idea so awful that most people couldn't conveive of it. But they've had nothing since. Unless they get a nuclear bomb from Football's friends, they are going to have to stick to killing Muslims in the future - which will make them even more unpopular in the Islamic world than they are already.

How do you know? They might just have taken power in Tunsia and Egypt, with Yemen, Syria and Libya to follow soon.

Nah. I don't buy the "Arabs aren't capable of democracy" stuff. Al-Qaeda was a symptom of the political hopelessness and impotence of the Arab world; now that that is changing, Al-Qaeda will become even less popular. Al-Qaeda has killed more Muslims than any other type of religion.
