I think it's pretty sad to need to be armed to feel safe. Some of you guys make it sound as if every red blooded american carries a gun, it's actually only about 25%.
And violence breeds violence, the statistics clearly show that gun owners actually suffer from more violence than non gun owners.
The stats and my personal experience tell me the same. I've been in more than one dicey situation in the US, Canada, Central America, Laos, Thailand and Australia and I've always managed to get out with nothing worse than a bloody nose and a black eye. Guaranteed that if I had pulled a knife or a gun, I'd be dead today. I'd much rather rely on my head and my mouth or as a last resort, my fists.
In my opinion, it's a bit foolish and arrogant, perhaps seen to many Rambo movies to think that you can help yourself because you own a gun. You're more likely to get shot for example if two or more intruders are after you and they are armed. In the movies, Rambo may be able to face 100 people but in real life, it doesn't work like that...
Pull a gun or a knife in a fight and you're more likely to get the same back. If not in that particular instant then later. Again it's pretty arrogant to think you'll come out on top every time.
And some of you mention your right to carry..Do you feel you should have the right to have grenades? AK47? Uzi? What about communities that vote for elected officials that want stricter gun control? Do they have rights too? The 2nd amendment just isn't clear enough to cover all.
