Keep Repulse Bay Public and Open

Repulse Bay Needs You! Repulse Bay Beach Belongs To You!
Government is changing the Outline Zoning Plan for Repulse Bay and plans to sell the Seaview Building and the open space next to it for a hotel development.

We will object to privatizing the Repulse Bay beach and so can you. Complete the online objection or download the form for mailing. The deadline is mid nite 26 November 2008. For more information visit our web site www.designinghongkong.com.

    What We Have Now:
    • Scenic beachscape
    • Lush heritage trees
    • Landmark building
    • Unrestricted public open space

    What Government Plans To Do:
    • Replace landmark building with commercial development and hotel
    • Ruin beachscape by creating continuous wall effect
    • Privatise beachfront so area is off-limit to public
    • Increase traffic gridlock on Beach Road

    Resident's Meeting:
    24 November 2008, 5:00pm - 7:30pm
Spices Restaurant at the Repulse Bay
    109 Repulse Bay Road

Although I prefer the alternative proposal to the Government's one, the way they are "marketing" this is ridiculous. The Government isn't proposing to "privatise Repulse Bay beach" - 95% of the existing beach would remain untouched exactly as it is now.

Yes, it is unfortunate how every side spins their part of the story ...

BUT ... still a valid concern for a lot of us southsiders who use the beach and rely on the parking etc...

For someone who almost never stops there but gets jammed behind buses when on the way to Stanley, putting the bus stops in a separate lay-by would be a big improvement.

What they should really be doing is tendering out the ferry route from Central to Repulse Bay and Stanley. That would remove most of the gridlock.

You reckon? I would have thought a ferry would take longer than even the most grid-locked day by road?

The real solution would be an MTR route down there .. but hey isnt that what's being proposed?

It about the journey not the destination

There is no more spectacular way to reach southside then by boat; and since when is time a factor when you are on holiday?
Unless of course you are a tour guide anxious to herd your flock to the nearest shopping mall

Indeed, but I doubt that there is enough tourist traffic between Central and Stanley to justify a ferry service. It's the commuters you would need.
