Well turns out we know two people now who have not made it out of the Taj so frankly whatever you say is irrelevant to me. There are some jobs that are nasty but thankfully some people in this world have balls and are realists. Soldiers fight wars, kill people all the time. How is this different from being an executioner of someone who has killed innocent people. It's a job to be done.

PDLM it's interesting to see you continue to ride your high horse when such an atrocity is the subject and people are still being held hostage. Your insensitivity is astounding but doesn't surprise me.

Happy that your friends made it out without problem.

That said, you reasoning is way too black or white here.

At war you kill cos if you don't the other one kill you.

In the case of an executioner it is different since the one you kill can't possibly kill you, a very cold bloodied process somehow.

    aussiegal's logic goes thus:
"I know people who appear to have been killed by terrorists, therefore, all my thoughts on terrorists and what to do about them are automatically true".

I don't see it myself. Fortunately, she seems to be the exception rather than the rule, as shown by a number of Australians' response to the execution of the Bali bombers.

PDLM, given the support by Americans after 9/11 to invade Afghanistan I believe that most people who are actually affected by such tragedies believe in retribution. And as an Aussie I would say that the very vast majority of people there were happy to know that the bombers would and have lost their lives.

Mat, I am being very specific here in the point I am making. If there is unrefutable proof that someone has taken a life why should that person be allowed to live? So what if they then in turn don't have the 'opportunity', as you reason, to take the life of the executioner, they have already stolen someone else's life, you want to give them another crack at taking a life?

What is the point of keeping such terrorists alive? What do you do with them? Where do you put them? Jails in most countries are already overflowing and the burden on tax payers to keep these people alive is high.

It's the price we pay for being better than them. Fortunately, the majority is happy to pay that price.

I agree with Aussie gal on some part .. the true is that ppl should not be killed at once.. they will not be knowing the pain of killing ppl.
but giving them punishments would not make any difference.. but once they are known to be dangerous better they should be sent out of normal living people and restricted with force over there for rest of their lives..not jail.. jail will give them food.. but not here.. they have to do the things and learn what it means to live and what life really means..

I am bit harsh about it.. but thats the way i hope it should be taken such that they learn the value of life

This nicely sums up how I feel too.

What aussiegal might be missing is the reality that in the USA it now costs more to kill murderers than keep them for life in prison.

Also it costs you much more to hate and live in anger as I have posted on other threads before.

Canadians originally entered Afghanistan at that gov't's invitation/acceptance in the now lost hunt for bin Laden. The mission morphed to one which defies any logic or common sense for me. USA and Brits invaded Iraq.

The irony for me is that these acts of governments do more to create terrorists than any wack job preacher of hate can do.

In the 1960s with US campus violence running rampant the radicals used this formula. Issue typically 4 demands of the Administration then take the Admin building. Cops arrive and start busting heads then the tiny band of radicals was joined by the campus liberals and the few hundred were now in the thousands. This model didn't work at my university (SFU) as the 125 students who occupied the Admin Building were joined by unarmed RCMP who sang a few verses of Kumbaya and escorted them to the buses and off to jail for trespassing. The police didn't blink when the recordings of machine gun fire from the roof of the theatre met them as they arrived on campus.

What is happening the world over is that the Bush approach is creating more terrorists. In fact the terrorists to keep their game going need to keep the USA doing what it did under Bush or they are done.

If I had a loved one, close relative or friend, who was there, caught up in the nightmare, and I'd heard that s/he may not have got out... I can only imagine just how pitch black my reactions would be. Words could never be enough.
