Aiya! Not only Claire is out-pedanting me now!
Haha-ha-hee...
Sometimes... just gotta LOVE this forum
Others' splatterings of language "variations" and lil' woopsy-typo-errors (pron. - > "errors", not "eras" ) that at once delight AND grate at the same time. [Yikes! Vice versa! Meant when word is "eras", should not be pronounced as "errors" (ol' gripe of mine) - SILLY typing before thinking!] C O N F U S E D
Hail all ye Pedants, great and small!

What about the 'Estuary English' used by huge swathes of the population of southern England? I cringe every time I hear it. As a Brit, I often find US English less offensive and easier on the ear than some of the dialects used in the UK. Dare I say I even find some of their spellings more logical.
As we're having a Friday afternoon pedant contest...
I thought it was hatch, as in cross-hatched, which is to shade a map, picture, etc. with close parallel lines ####.
