Coin flips. Italian end for kicks. Italy kicks first.

    Round 1:
    Insigne scores.
    Kroos scores.
    ITA 1-1 GER

    Round 2:
Zaza kicks it into the 23rd row in the stands. Remember, he was the one subbed in at 120" specifically for PKs
Mueller with weak strike and easy save for GK.
    ITA 1-1 GER

    Round 3:
    Barzagi scores with ease
Ozil guesses right but hits a post
    ITA 2-1 GER

    Round 4:
Pelle with a feeble miss wide.
    Draxler buries it with confidence
    ITA 2-2 GER

    Round 5:
Bonucci shoots low left and GK makes HUGE one-handed save!!
Schweinsteiger kick is TEN FEET over the goal.
    ITA 2-2 GER

    Round 6
    Giaccherini scores
Hommels scores to keep Germany alive
    ITA 3-3 GER

    Round 6
Parolo down the middle for a goal
    GER scores
    4-4

    Round 7
De Schenio bounces one off the crossbar in for a goal.
    Boatang scores
    5-5

    Round 8
    ITA stopped by GER GK!!!
Germany scores and WIN . . . . goal between goalkeeper's left arm and body.

Jonas Hector scores the winner . . . and per my earlier comment about Greek Tragedy, a hero named Hector emerged.

Indeed. Quite a grind . . . and with the ghosts of past ITA/GER matches hanging in the air.

Germany win on penalties, who would have guessed?

Off topic but in this year of craziness, Djokovic knocked out of Wimbledon in the third round.

That really busts the draw wide open.

If Boateng had missed his PK, I would have sworn he owed money to the mob . . . he was terrible most of the match.

I think he wasn't that bad but made 2,3 ( and one crucial ) mistakes. German sport press overall is ok with him. But Kimmich and Schweinsteiger below average according to various Sports Magazines. Neuer, Hummels, Özil top the performance list.
