    SIM for USA and Canada

I am travelling too the USA and Canada soon and would normally purchase a SIM when I arrive in the new place. However, I am having trouble finding a decent SIM package. Buying a burner phone and SIM seems more the done thing in North America. I am reluctant to buy a HK wifi egg package from my phone provider here at $128 a day- extortionate!

I am likely to use data for maps, internet so calls less of an issue.

Can anyone suggest a decent provider either here in HK, Canada (first destination) or the US. A package that does both would be ideal.

    Thanks.

Head to Ap Liu Street, Sham Shui Po. You will find scores of vendors selling USA SIM cards. If you don't want to take the trouble to travel, scan through hktvmall.com and order one you like.

Please do sort it out on this side, it will likely be more expensive in the US and may be hard to find (as in, you might have to go to a mobile store, not something you want to do on a trip).

Wow! Thanks- loads to look at.

This looks ideal for 30 days split across USA and Canada.

Depends where in the US and for how long.

Birdie Mobile travel sim allows you to buy day passes for different countries through their app. $40/day for US/Canada

    Can also buy on *****

    Or if there's a T-mobile store near where you'll be: https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/marketi...rist_plan.html

Can I just add a word of caution..? Many of the SIM cards mentioned above give you access to the internet, i.e. they are for "data download". You can't actually phone anyone with them. There are a couple of advantages, however, to data download : first, you need to use WhatsApp (or similar) but keep your regular HK telephone number, so you aren't just in contact with US, but with the whole world. If you use voice on WhatsApp, then you can "phone" people. The 2nd advantage is that this sort of card works anywhere in the world (within reason), not just the USA. SmarTone sells 30-day cards, 1.5GBs, for HK$298, although there will probably be cheaper versions elsewhere.

When buying TMO sim cards its better to buy them online if you wait until you arrive in the States. Many of the shops are franchisesd and they charge up the a** for the same as you would get online. Neverthless as I said you got a good rate with the Tofu deal assuming its legit. TMO preapid for 1 month would nromally run you about US$45 if you buy it from TMO.
