    Compare England and Hong Kong

    In general, I think...

    England benefits

    Work/life balance
    Air quality
    Food
    Property prices

    Hong Kong benefits

    Convenience
    Weather

Anything you guys disagree with or care to add?

You missed out the biggest benefit of HK is 'Iow income tax' - that is what attracts people moving to HK for work.

I would also argue HK has better food quality than UK (groceries is cheaper though) and transportation is better and cheaper than UK ( outside London).

Kowloon Goon, imparanoic and iwy1 like this.

    Better food quality? No way.

First England is larger both in area and population and no checkpoints exist between it and the rest of the UK.

England has more coverage of free health care. Many GP, specialists, dentists and TCM clinics in HK receive no public funding. Saying seeing a doctor is cheap in HK is wrong, only public hospitals only and most people don't goto public GPs and specialists because of quotas and long waiting time. England has target waiting time for non urgent public specialist health care. HK does not, waiting time for public specialists is very very long.

England for Western food. HK for Asian food.

England is GCSE + A Levels before uni. HK had similarly two exams before uni, now changed to one exam at the end of the Sixth year of Secondary School. Many HK students don't like having two exams and prefer one exam only before uni, and A Levels are harder than the current HKDSE. Also HK students must learn all 3, Cantonese, English and Mandarin instead of only English.

HK for cheaper import food and other goods from nearby cheaper Mainland China and South East Asia. HK for no or lower taxes.

England for more cultural diversity and use of English.

Also, HK for less regular alcohol consumption .

It's always a bit silly to try to compare a country with a city... If you want to try to make a comparison, try London and HK. That makes a lot more sense.

Is England a city? Honestly what an utterly ridiculous statement unless your version of HK exists between Sheung Wan and Causeway Bay.

    England over HK
    Long summer evenings
    Christmas
    Decent Indian restaurants!
Not having the glued to mobile phone culture
    Bugger all else.

    HK over England
    Low tax
    Magnificent public transport
Food. I don’t know what diets some of you have but I eat Western food once a week. I can take my pick of authentic Asian fare and don’t have to pay through the nose for it
Wet markets including the fruit and veg
Climate ( I’ll take 35 degrees and humid 100% of the time over -5 and bitter winds)
    Rain, storms, typhoons!
With the exception of Bali (Benidorm for Aussies) I can be somewhere exotic and largely unspoilt (El Nido for example) in 2-4 hours.
    HK Airport!
    PR in 3 months
    Hiking
Wonders such as Ham Tin Beach

    I could go on!

And I should add being able to eat and drink at places like Ham Tin and Shek O and not being charged a premium for the privilege

Hong Kong is safer and you take more of your money home.

England wins on food, including Chinese food.
    England wins on countryside.
England wins on culture... West End, Museums, Concerts, etc.
    England wins on kid's stuff.
    England wins on health.
England wins on manners and social niceties.
    England wins on weather.
    England wins on housing.
    England wins on sports.

That said... I wouldn't move back there... we will head to a third country, probably Scandinavian.

    *edit*
I think dealing with government is generally (not always) much more efficient in HK. I think culturally, the family unit is stronger in HK and I like that.

I like that there isn't such a drinking culture here...

Does your version of London only exist between Piccadilly Circus and Charing Cross?
