    Work/life balance for biotech/pharma industry?

    Hello,

I am seriously thinking about moving to HK and I was hoping to get some help from the wise people on this board. My husband has an offer from HK that he really wants to take, and we have one week to decide.

I currently work in pharmaceutical R&D in the US. My questions are:

    1) Is it possible to work in biotech/pharma R&D with only English?

    2) How is the work/life balance in biotech/pharma industry? I searched on this forum and read lots of information on finance and teaching, but didn't see anything for R&D.

    3) Are most biotech/pharma located in the science park? Is it a good idea to commute to Shenzhen? We will most likely live near Sha Tin, although I don't know the area at all.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

There are no major biotech or pharma companies with R&D labs in HK that I am aware of. The Science Park will have small biomedical/health diagnostics companies where your science skills could be useful. The HK universities might have post-doctoral research positions that involve R&D in the area you specialise in.

Whether it is a good idea or not to commute from HK to Shenzhen to work will probably depend on where the job is based. I personally think it'll be too stressful to do this in the long term.

i used to work in pharma in the states. i would not take a pharma job in HK, unless he is getting paid for management level salary.
