    Lets take a hypothetic calculation.
Retired, net worth 30 million, 20 million invested, average return 3.5%.
10 million for the residential property to live, so no rent to be paid.
That amounts to a disposable income of 58330$, out of which 40% are 23330.
I need way less than that.
Did I have 30 mio. net worth, I could save more than 60%.

When I lived in HK i saved more than 50% of my salary. But made poor decisions when it came to investments.

Most of us are young enough to have learnt from those mistakes. Doubt anyone is regret free of all the investments they made..

Sometimes I like to think of these regrets as tuition fess

Certainly not me. But I'd like to think that while my investing has been a long way from perfect, it's been good enough to get the job done.

Even Warren Buffet has made some dud investments.

I found that as you get older, your earning potential increases. So that money when you were a little kid, is pretty insignificant. You have your experiences and you learn from them - I guess for me, I'm ultra conservative when it comes to investments. Definitely I made plenty of stupid choices when I was on margin trading in the past.
