Churchill was 64 at the beginning of WWII and 70 at the end. Bernie would be 80 when he became president and 84 when his first term ended.
The fifteen year difference is very significant and the decline between 65 and 80 is very apparent in every single person, even the best maintained and most fit.

Churchill was definitely not well maintained . He was well past his prime though so we would have been better off with a young one.

Love it when people twist things to make me say the stupidest things, really more a reflection on them than me. The day I actually think that, I will check out promptly.

What I did say is that once you reach a certain age, there is no doubt that your best years are behind and everyone is a diminished version of their best self. I can try to delude myself and say I'm fitter than people half my age, sure that's true but also true is that I'm physically 70% of my best self. That's the true reality. Unlike some, I don't need to soften the blow with drugs and alcohol, I accept the pain and diminished capacity with my eyes wide open. No need to try to lie to myself to make me feel better.

Some people decide that they can't handle the pain, the challenges and the difficulties that one is certain to face in older years and decide to end it. I respect that, they go on their own terms and even at 60, one has lived a full life with as I said the best years behind. Now, frustrated people afraid of looking at the truth may want to take this as saying there's nothing to live for but that isn't the case. There can be enough to live for at 90 or even 100... but it's a personal choice and no need to sugarcoat it by refusing to look at the tough challenges that face most seniors. Lots of expats well past their prime try to hang on to their deluded dreams of youth by chasing skirts, popping viagra and numbing themselves with drinking in poorer asian countries. That's what I personally find sad but to each their own...

We need more political leaders like, Justin Trudeau, Jacinda Ardern in their respective countries, with a bit of luck, Joe Kennedy in the USA and Stan Grant, for Australia, as it never sat well with my political compass as to why we don't have an indigenous prime minister.. I'll compromise on the age thing in Stan Grants case, being indigenous and the only one with enough guts to take on the crusty political establishment/media etc, plus he's a great public orator.

Anyway, we are definitely in for some big changes soon, hopefully led by some young blood who can direct us all to being better custodians of this world that we depend on for our continued human survival.
I think a minimum numbers of years work in the private non-political sector - say 10 years. Too many professional politicians with little experience of life outside the coddled world of a fur lined rut of working as a government employee or political advisor.

I have no idea what you are talking about with respect to political acumen. Not all politicians are in the Aussie cabinet

I know you are trying, and failing, to have a go at me. I say failing because you don't know me or my life and are so far off the mark it is extremely funny. Get a life Golem before you get too old to do anything

Making general remarks as opposed to trying to make people say things that make no sense. Maybe it fits, maybe it doesn't but at least it's based in reality not made up fiction

    I struggle to understand that.

This makes no sense to me. Can you try again?
