Meanwhile, even though the Police Public Relations Bureau had told media organisations that they could arrange for reporters to take over from their colleagues stationed inside the university campus, officers on the ground apparently refused to allow that to happen.

When several reporters, including two from RTHK, arrived at a designated location to conduct a swap, riot police pointed their guns at the journalists demanding that they leave the scene right away.

They also ordered RTHK reporters to stop filming with their cameras, saying they would be arrested for rioting if they did not leave immediately.

The descent into a police state is a deliberate policy.

Many people here should know what the "next step" meant for Tibet...

PRC's despot-for-life keeps returning to the totalitarian themes of his formative years; those good old times when people learnt where their place was. (his was obviously at the top of the heap)

    HK professor Simon Shen:

HistoryLesson the 1959 “Stop the violence” script for Tibet. According to Mao, instead of political resolution, the key is to create conflict among crowds, even small problems should be escalated. The more chaotic the better, only then the next step can begin.

Nobody "watches the watchmen" any longer, but we know what organization they take their orders from.

#BREAKING #HongKongProtesters: @hkpoliceforce warns they will use LIVE ROUNDS to fight back if protesters attack officer by lethal weapons like petrol bombs, arrows and vehicle. It's an official warning issued from police headquarter at midnight.

Coincidentally, only an hour earlier (11pm) CCP mouthpiece Global Times' chief had issued a statement:

"Urge authorization of HKPF to use stronger weapons like rifles vs rioters using bows and ball bearings. Police snipers with live ammo shd target rioters with bows and deprive their fighting ability. In case of rioter deaths, police needn't assume legal liability" new @HuXijin_GT

Police Violates Press Freedom Across Different Districts

    1900 Tsim Sha Tsui
While the police pushed forward, they used their shield to push at the press and threatened the foreign press in English.

With an unfriendly tone, they called the press “stupid press” and told them “do not complain if you get shot”. They also “guided” the press how to film, telling them “the protestors are just cockroaches, do not film them.”

    2125 East Tsim Sha Tsui
The police used bright torches to shine at the press. They yelled, “Leave now! corrupted press!” while they were retreating their cordon line.

    2139 Jordan
The police claimed that they are friends of the press.

I wonder for the umpteenth time if there are no word(s) other than the same repetitive monosyllabic "cockroach" that comes from the Govt fed and brainwashed mouths of the po-po. Don't they ever learn/study to enrich their vocabulary?

This cockroach. That cockroach. What are they, then?

Of course, they too are - cockroaches. Elite cockroaches. The protesters are HKers, and so are they. Cockroaches at war.I prefer the non elite ones.

Interesting to read this since it shows how warped their logic is. If only the society condemned violence from the start back in June, then the protests would have died down.

No question of the why. The police lives in a world where violence and protests are per definition bad and I believe them since their psychology has a harder time to tolerate people using their rights of assembly, protests and speech when it means that life doesn’t go along traditional paths.
Many police probably feel that the current society grants too many rights to the public.

What they need to realise is that society has granted rights and obligations to itself and the police cannot unilaterally change those rules by curbing such rights and granting themselves more rights to police with force when they don’t like it. When your urge to control things and your unease with a free spirit become your dominant way of thinking, you have essentially lost the spirit of a modern and civilised society.
