I guess the question should be would the continuation of the election do harm to the Party.
A cynic might think....
Almost certainly yes. At this stage the government still claims legitimacy by having a good turn-out at elections especially at the district level where voting the right way some would suggest is rewarded with a flow of cash via and coordinated by the correct district councillors. If you vote the wrong way projects in your district will struggle for priority. IF the government loses by a landslide at a level of government it has spend Billions managing over the years it will be a failure and prove they lack legitimacy before the government is ready to cast this basic expectation aside. Therefore the elections will not happen on the 24th. They will be delayed, delayed again until the time is right.
So how do you get them postponed with a whiff of legitimacy? Reading around the subject of dictators cancelling elections that may challenge their power the usual way is to engineer a civil disturbance. So what would be needed to make that happen between now and Sunday? Perhaps
Wednesday - Let out all the more fragile protesters at Poly U - Under 18, sick, injured, scared
Thursday - Create a pretence for having to go in such as chemical weapons being made and clearly state lethal force will be used if Police are threatened.
Thursday Night - Full on liberation of Poly U from the terrorists with brutal images and live rounds fired and chemicals found (later turns out to be paint thinner)
Friday - Full Scale Mouth Frothing from all sides.
Friday Night - Riots on the streets of Kowloon - Lots of windows will be broken this time
Saturday around 14:00 - Election called off using CCP party language in the press release
Saturday night - More riots and dangerous fires started
Sunday - 'We were right to call off the election' because of the violence
That is probably how a tin-pot dictator would act in the coming days.
One of my candidates sent out her emails last night so maybe she knows something.Original Post Deleted

Chief Secretary, apparently. Lets see how good people takes the tango line when he decides to cancel the elections. Which they will, if we are to trust the current polls:

...I don't get it? Both sides want people to vote? The arguing from the Beijing side is rather poor...To prepare them for a beating, so they can be better prepared on further elections?? Are they thinking democratically? Who believes this?Original Post Deleted
A little bit off the topic. Wasn't sure where to ask/post. How credible is Dismsum daily?
