    FDA seems to believe that N95 masks meeting NIOSH specifications are suitable for SARS and other viruses

    All masks get bought by scalpers the instant they are out on sale. I saw them queueing outside my local Watson's and Manning's this morning. Your best bet would be to buy them from the scalpers if you really need them. The going rate at local pharmacies is around 500HKD for a box of 10-20 depending on the model.

    Heard the same story for the UK..
    suddenly all masks are sold out

    Give it a couple of weeks and the shops will be full of them again.

    If you are caught short, the best advice floating around the internet seems to be to (i) wash hands frequently (ii) keep your hands away from your face and (ii) avoid crowded places as much as possible. A number of experts have stated that these are more effective than wearing a mask.
