Hi Mary application initiated on November 12 last year. Biometrics done the following day. Then we got a message Dec 9 to say its with an entry clearance officer. Jan 9 a message for my wife to take her passport to vfs as she had kept her passport with her while the application was processed. Passport returned jan 22 with Vignette to travel between feb 12 and march 12. They only give you a 30 day window to arrive. The rules say you must get your biometric residents permit at least 10 days before the vignette expires. Wifes employer being very difficult so she came to an agreement to travel feb 28 and no later.

Getting my Japanese wife into Australia was super easy. Just paid AU$20 for an electronic tourist visa online, buy a one way ticket to Aus and she can enter no problem as a tourist, then file the permanent resident application online whilst in Australia, it takes 23-29 months to process but during this time she automatically gets a bridging visa until they decide her application. She got notification to do health check last week, made a booking online and did it 3 days later so thats done, next step might be the police clearance, not sure just waiting, but who cares how long it takes, she is already in Aus. Oh also I just enrolled her in Australian medicare health system which is something she is entitled to the second she files application for PR (no need to wait the 23-29 months until decision on visa).

The only stressful thing I had to do was fake a return ticket using MS paint because airlines are sometimes fuckers and don't let you board a plane if you don't have a return ticket or proof of residency in the country you are going to. You can buy fake return tickets online for US$5, but I was a bit concerned giving my CC details out to some dodgy online company, even if they have a good reputation from others, so I had to rely on my paint skills which are really bad. But one tip, if you have a previous booking from trip.com just use that one. They use a really boring font for the flight details so even an idiot like me can overwrite it with the default font used in MS Paint and it still looks like a genuine ticket

Thats kool. The UK spouse visa is a totally different animal we had to submit a dossier of information 2 inches thick with the ins and outs of a ducks arse. Its also very costly but we used a specialist Visa agent who took some of the stress away. The worse thing is you dont get any idea of the result until the day your passport is collected.

I may still have to do the ducks arse over the next 2-3 years so I may have spoken too soon. Also is also costly (AU$8k for visa application and health check). But the main point is my wife is already in Australia during all this hoohaa, has medical, can upgrade her bridging visa that allows employment, etc. So she's here with me and the kids and really we don't care too much how long it takes

Thank you for the info Bob. Did you pay extra for fast track application and how much was the agency please? We are planning on next year but with the current situation may have to leave HK sooner.
I hope there are still flights for you at the end of Feb!

Hi Mary we didnt pay for fast track but a friend of my wifes did and got her visa in 18 days. Its ok if your case has no complications ans is straight forward. We used Total Consultancy in Wan Chai it was 9000hk$. They hold free seminars on Sundays if ever you want to have a chat with them. The flight is already booked with Emirates they seem to be cheaper than most.

Thank you for the info Bob. Re flights I meant that I hope HKG doesn’t go into lockdown or anything silly like that! You never know these days.

We didn't use a agency, as long as you have all the info and keep copies of the documents it should be ok.

    $9000!! Ouch.

That’s 3 times what we paid with British Connections.
